Women: 6 Tips to The Warrior You’re Meant To Be

Growing up, I could be described as quiet and reserved. I followed rules and did what adults asked me to with a smile. But I also always had an innate drive, something inside that once unleashed could prove powerful. It was a side of me that not everyone was able to see, but when channelled appropriately proved to be beneficial.

My inner warrior has continued to be an asset that has helped me succeed in life. I’ll never forget the first time my warrior showed her face at school. I was in first grade, and both my teacher and classmates would probably have described me as sweet. And I was kind. It’s part of who I am, but I also don’t like to get messed with. So when one of my classmates began following me around the playground each day at recess, it bothered me, but I ignored it. After a few days of eliciting no response from me, he started following me and saying, “kiss me, baby!”

That infuriated me. I climbed on the monkey bars to avoid the little jerk. He was standing right below me as I began to swing from bar to bar when he repeated his token phrase again.

I had endured enough. Without hesitation, I kicked him as hard as I could in the chest. I was a petite first grader, but the force sent him toppling over onto the ground. Needless to say, he didn’t bother me again after that.

And it only took a few of my similar retaliations for boys to realize they shouldn’t mess with me.  Was I still quiet Michelle? For sure, but I didn’t like getting pushed around either. While my reserved disposition has continued to be prevalent, my warrior princess demeanour also continued to make her presence known as I matured. She was evident in the way I attacked my studies and pushed myself academically. And there was no denying my warrior mentality on the court and playing field while playing in competitive sports.

Since most of us endeavour to be strong, fierce women, I think it’s only right, to share some useful tips for channelling your inner warrior goddess.

Train like a beast

Being a warrior means you train hard. Nothing worthwhile comes easily. Regardless of what you are training for, give it your all.  When I am working toward any goal, I go at it with full force. I take pride in sweat and taking on challenges. Sometimes the road is tough, but in my experience, my personal growth has been the result of overcoming obstacles. It’s when I push myself past my comfort zone. So, put in the work. Push yourself beyond your limits. You don’t have to be perfect. It’s your effort that counts.

Stay mentally focused

Warriors keep their eye on the objective. They have a battle plan and even a backup plan. Essentially, they remain focused on defeating the foe. They are able to block out the distractions. When working toward any goal, it can be easy to become sidetracked by the many outside forces. And the enemy often strategizes to deter us from our plan of attack. Make sure to keep your goals at the forefront of your mind. Remind yourself of your mission daily.

Channel your intensity

Intensity drives passion. Be passionate about your cause. Don’t become a victim of circumstances. And never rely on luck. Instead, make things happen for yourself. Be the predator, not the prey. I will admit that I am not the smartest or most athletic. I’m not the most beautiful. I struggle, but I am willing to put in work.  Work ethic is one of the most important characteristics of warriors. They leave blood, sweat, and tears on the battlefield.  So leave it all out there.

Take no prisoners

Fight for what you want. This sounds brutal, but warriors fight to the death. And if that isn’t intense, I don’t know what is. If you are tentative and unsure, your own demise will be imminent. So, kill your figurative enemies. Slay your doubts… annihilate the excuses that keep you from your ultimate goal. Wield your sword, let out your battle cry, and murder the negative thoughts that try to invade.

Make sacrifices

True warriors are willing to sacrifice life and limb to accomplish their objective. And while that seems extreme, when working toward goals, we will undoubtedly have to give up things that we love. And while that may hurt initially, if it helps us win the battle and essentially the war, we owe to ourselves to do it.

Be confident

Most importantly, warriors know their worth. They hold their heads high without worrying about what their opponents think. There isn’t room for timidity. And when the feelings of doubt arise, they fake it. Each and every day, remind yourself of your strength. Remember the trials you have endured.  Never let the enemy convince you that you aren’t worthy. Hold your head high, especially when the enemy attacks. There’s a warrior princess living inside each of us, so embrace her. Let her out. Practice channelling her in the right direction. And as always, make sure to let me be a part of your journey. A single warrior can only take on an advancing army with the help of her comrades.
