There’s a quote I love that is attributed to Albert Einstein. It reads like this:
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”– Albert Einstein
Great quote, right?
And yet, this is exactly how so many of us live our lives. You see, as humans we are conditioned to repeat patterns. It’s a way to feel “certainty” while accomplishing our regular daily routine. Certainty is a human need and depending on the individual; it can be very high for some more than others. It’s the need to feel safe, comfortable, secure, protected, and have predictability in our lives. If you are high in this area, which a lot of people are, it’s likely you resist a lot of change. If you’re not happy with how life is going, new daily patterns will benefit you.
It usually takes a life-changing event for most people to feel motivated to change things up in their lives though. Pain drives change. We usually wait for the feeling of wanting to do something different to make a change in our lives. However, if we expect the “feel like” feeling to popup, more than likely – we’re NOT going to make a step to do something different. We can have good intentions in our thoughts, but if we allow our feelings to be in charge, our feelings are going to win. When this happens if you don’t feel like doing it, you won’t do it.
Don’t wait for inspiration to show up, create it – then take action. By taking action, we become inspired. You have everything within you to play big. Once you override what’s holding you back from all that you can be, you’ll discover the only thing that was ever missing was your intention and action. Bringing in new habits can also create new positive neural pathways in your brain which will enhance your life – better thoughts, better emotions, better life.
“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” – Michelangelo– Michelangelo
We don’t have to wait until we feel pain or feel driven to change – the best time is always now.
