The Power of Failure

How many times have you tried your best, failed, tried again and failed once again? Only to have it repeated over and over again! Giving your all and then failing repeatedly can make you give up hope. There are small failures and failures which can shake your world. Failures are built on nightmares and can feel like a sharp knife being stabbed in your back when you never expect it.

Don’t fret. Failure is needed and necessary, it gives us life altering lessons which make us a better version of ourselves. Some praise their teachers and parents for life lessons; however nothing teaches better than the experiences you gain from failure. Failure will try to break you, but if you keep moving forward failure is bound to make you a success.

If it was not for failure, we would never have enjoyed the Harry Potter series, written by the creative JK Rowling. JK Rowling was broke, depressed, divorced and had a kid to take care of. Life was not easy for her, but using her creativity and disregarding her failure, she wrote about a boy with a scar, Harry Potter and his wizard school Hogwarts who we grew to love.

It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all in which case, you fail by default.”

-JK Rowling

If it was not for failure, we would never have watched Michael Jordan flying in the air like superman and slam dunking the basketball. Michael Jordan failed several times; he was even dropped out of his high school basketball team. This just grew the fire within him and he became the best basketball player of all time.

I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

-Michael Jordan

If it was not for failure, Jack Ma would not have become the owner of the successful B2B platform Alibaba Group and the second richest Chinese person in the world. He has been ridiculed by numerous failures. He failed multiple times in his elementary and middle school exams, he even applied to Harvard 10 times and was rejected all 10 times! We would think that would be it, but no – he was rejected by KFC and even the police force in China. He eventually started Alibaba in 1999, but with zero revenue for three years. Customers from Alibaba were making tons of money through the platform, but Jack Ma was not even able to pay his food bills. There are countless stories of how customers of Alibaba paid for his food bill as a gift to the money making platform we call Alibaba.

Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.”

-Jack Ma

Failure helps you re-assess yourself and it provides you a full report on your strengths and weaknesses. With this foolproof report, you are able to identify what you should focus your energy on, skills you need to improve and ambitions you need not waste your time on. Failure guides you to the road with more fulfilment that eventually leads to the footpath to success.

There is a choice, failure or regrets… which one would you prefer having? Regrets are one of the worst feelings, and do not give you any opportunities but lesser confidence. A failure, if stepped onto over and over again, will only keep giving you opportunities in terms of finances, relationships and other great aspects in life.

Don’t give up, it’s not failure that stops you! People who succeed don’t stop at one, a hundred or even a thousand failures. Learn faster, work harder, work smarter and work till you achieve your dreams. Winners don’t enjoy failure; they love it – they become hungrier, they want to prove failure wrong. Learn from what works but learn more from what does not work.

You should go after your failures, don’t wait for it to come to you. The more you run away from your failures, the more they will come after you. When you stand up and go for it you have a higher chance of winning. Take failures by the life of it, take it down. In life, knock on the doors, ask, get rejected and repeat. Failure is a necessity, ask for it!
